THE REAL CHALLENGE
IB German isn't just vocabulary
it's a different way of being assessed
Most students don't struggle with German itself. They struggle with what the IB expects — the individual oral, the right register, writing a balanced argument in a second language, reading a literary text and saying something real about it.
The speaking pressure
The individual oral feels like the hardest part: think on your feet, in German, about a stimulus you've never seen, and keep talking. Without practice, nerves win.
Writing that hits the criteria
Knowing words isn't the same as shaping a formal email, a blog, or a literary response that ticks every box. Structure and register are where marks quietly disappear.
A textbook that doesn't know you
Classroom German moves at the pace of thirty students. Your gaps, your level, and your exam timeline get averaged out.

The three IB German courses,
explained simply
"IB German" means different things depending on your background. Here's where you fit.
German ab initio
SL only
For students new to German. You start from the basics and build toward simple, confident communication about everyday topics — family, school, food, travel. The course is built for beginners, so you're never behind.
German B
SL & HL · most common
For students who've already learned some German. The focus is real communication across five themes — identities, experiences, human ingenuity, social organisation, and sharing the planet. HL adds two works of literature.
German A: Language & Literature / Literature
SL & HL
For near-native and native speakers. You read and analyse literary and non-literary texts, write commentaries, and develop a genuine critical voice in German. This is a literature course taught in German, not a language course.
Not sure which one you're in? Tell us your school and year — we'll confirm it in your free trial.
WHY ONLINE WORKS
Better than a tutor down the road —
especially for a language
Language learning rewards consistency and real conversation. Online one-to-one delivers both, without the commute eating your evenings.
A native-level tutor, wherever you are
In Zurich, Munich or a smaller town with no IB German tutor nearby, you still get someone who speaks German like a first language.
Every minute is speaking time
One-to-one means you talk for the whole lesson, not three minutes out of sixty. That's how oral confidence is built.
Shared screen, shared text
We annotate your essays, mark up reading passages, and build vocabulary lists together in real time.
Lessons that fit IB life
Around mocks, CAS, and the rest of your diploma. Reschedule when school gets heavy.

WHY WE EXIST
Richa Jain
Founder, Educifly · IB Mathematics Educator
Educifly began with a simple frustration. As an IB Mathematics educator, Richa watched bright, capable students lose marks not because they lacked ability, but because no one was teaching them the way the IB actually works — and because good, subject-specialist tutoring was hard to find, especially online.
She built Educifly to fix that across every IB subject. For German, that means matching students with native-level tutors who know the courses inside out — so a student in Munich or Vienna gets the same quality of teaching as one in a major exam-prep hub. The mission is the same in every subject: real expertise, one student at a time.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
IB German tutoring,
your questions answered
Which IB German course do you tutor?
All three: German ab initio (for beginners), German B (SL and HL), and German A: Language & Literature / Literature. If you're unsure which you're taking, we'll confirm it in your free trial.
Can you help a complete beginner in ab initio?
Absolutely. Many of our German students start with little or no German. Ab initio is designed for beginners, and one-to-one lessons let us move at a pace that feels comfortable from the very first "Hallo."
How do you prepare students for the individual oral?
We run mock orals using real-style visual stimuli, practise describing and discussing in German, and build the confidence to keep talking. By exam day, the format feels familiar.
Are the tutors native German speakers?
Your tutor speaks German at a native or near-native level and knows the IB German courses in depth — so you get authentic language and exam expertise.
My child studies in Switzerland / Germany / Austria. Can you still help?
Yes. All lessons are online, so we support students across Switzerland, Germany, Austria and the rest of Europe — and expat families worldwide.
Can you help with the HL literature components?
Yes. For German B HL and German A, we cover close reading, themes, and writing commentaries with a genuine critical voice.
