THE REAL CHALLENGE

IB Maths AI looks friendlier than AA —
until the modelling and stats pile up

Applications & Interpretation is often chosen as the "easier" maths — and then surprises people. The exam is heavy on statistics, modelling and reading real situations, the questions are wordy, and the graphing calculator is a tool you have to master, not a shortcut. Most students lose marks on interpretation and technique, not on arithmetic.

Statistics is bigger than students expect

Distributions, hypothesis testing, correlation and regression carry serious weight. Treated as an afterthought, they quietly drain marks across both papers.

Modelling means translating words into maths

AI questions describe real situations and ask you to model them. Knowing the formula isn't enough if you can't set the problem up or interpret the answer.

The Exploration is a different skill entirely

The Internal Assessment is worth 20% and asks you to apply maths to a real question independently. Strong exam students often have no idea how to choose a topic or hit the criteria.

What is IB Maths AI?

"IB Maths" splits into two courses — AA and AI — each at HL and SL. Here's exactly what Applications & Interpretation is, and where you fit.

Applications & Interpretation — the course

AI is one of the two IB Diploma mathematics courses — the applied, real-world route, built around statistics, modelling, functions and the practical use of a graphing calculator, with less emphasis on abstract proof than AA. It's the usual choice for social sciences, business, design, natural sciences and other data-driven fields.

HL vs SL

SL covers the core course at a measured pace; HL adds deeper, harder content and an extra exam — Paper 3 — testing extended, applied problem-solving. The IB recommends 240 teaching hours for HL and 150 for SL. HL AI is a substantial course in its own right and is accepted for many quantitative degrees.

Papers & the Exploration

Your grade comes from written exams plus the IA. In AI a graphing calculator is allowed on every paper; HL adds the investigative Paper 3. The IA — the "Exploration" — is independent mathematical writing worth 20% at both levels. We prepare all of them, and coach the Exploration as a project — never write it for you.

WHY ONLINE WORKS

Why online IB Maths AI lessons work so well

Maths is taught best with live working, a shared whiteboard and instant feedback on every line — and AI's calculator and modelling work especially well on a shared screen. One-to-one lessons aren't a compromise; they're focused time on precisely the topics standing between you and your grade.

A specialist tutor, wherever you are

In Geneva, Dubai or a town with no strong IB maths teacher nearby, you still learn with someone who knows AI and its mark scheme inside out.

We work through problems together, live

On a shared whiteboard we set up models, run the calculator steps with you, and mark your interpretation against the scheme in real time.

Built around your weak topics

No re-teaching what you've mastered. We diagnose the gaps — often statistics or modelling — and spend every lesson where it moves your grade.

Lessons that fit IB life

Around the IA, mocks, CAS and five other subjects. Reschedule when the timetable gets heavy.

HOW IT WORKS

A simple path, shaped entirely around your level, your timeline and the topics your grade needs most.

1

Free trial & diagnosis

We look at your recent work, find your real level, and pinpoint exactly which topics and exam skills are costing you marks.

2

Your personal plan

A roadmap mapped to your level — HL or SL — your exam timeline and your IA deadlines, with clear weekly priorities.

3

Weekly one-to-one lessons

Topic teaching, worked-problem practice and exam-question drilling every week, all tailored to you.

4

IA & exam preparation

Past-paper practice, calculator and mark-scheme technique, and step-by-step Exploration coaching, rehearsed until the real exams feel familiar.

WHAT WE COVER

Every IB Maths AI
topic we cover

Across HL and SL, we cover the full range AI tests — the five syllabus themes, the calculator skills, the Exploration and every paper — built up at your pace.

Number & algebra

Standard form, sequences and series, financial maths including compound interest and loans, and (at HL) matrices and complex numbers.

Functions & modelling

Linear, quadratic, exponential and other models, fitting functions to data, and interpreting them in real-world contexts.

Geometry & trigonometry

Right-angled and non-right-angled trig, 3D geometry, and (at HL) vectors and graph theory.

Statistics & probability

THE CORE OF AI

Data analysis, correlation and regression, probability, distributions, and hypothesis testing including chi-squared and t-tests.

Calculus

Differentiation and integration with a practical, applied focus — rates of change, optimisation and areas, extended further at HL.

The Exploration (IA)

Choosing a strong, data-rich topic, applying genuine mathematics, and writing it up against all the assessment criteria — coached, never ghost-written.

WHO IT'S FOR

Who we help
with IB Maths AI

From students fighting to pass SL to HL students chasing a 7, there's a place for you.

The student who's fallen behind

Wordy modelling questions and growing stats topics have left you lost. We rebuild the foundations and steady the panic, topic by topic.

The SL student aiming higher

Solid but stuck in the 4–5 range. We close the gaps in statistics, modelling and interpretation that separate a 5 from a 7.

The HL student chasing a 7

Strong, but Paper 3, hypothesis testing or the harder modelling stand between you and the top grade. We sharpen all three.

The student stuck on the IA

No idea how to choose a data-rich topic or hit the criteria. We coach the Exploration from blank page to polished, finished piece.

WHY WE EXIST

Richa Jain

Founder, Educifly · IB Mathematics Educator

Educifly began with a simple problem. As an IB Mathematics educator, Richa watched bright, capable students lose marks not because they lacked ability, but because no one was teaching them the way the exam actually works — and because good, subject-specialist tutoring was hard to find, especially online.

Maths is the subject Richa knows best, and the one she built Educifly to teach well. For Applications & Interpretation that means hand-picking AI specialists who know HL and SL — and its statistics and modelling — from the inside, so a student in Geneva, Dubai or Singapore gets the same quality of teaching as one in a major exam-prep hub. The mission is the same in every subject: real expertise, one student at a time.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Your IB Maths AI
questions, answered

What's the difference between Maths AI and AA, and which should I take?

AI (Applications & Interpretation) focuses on real-world modelling, data and statistics, with the calculator allowed throughout; AA (Analysis & Approaches) is the pure, theory-focused course built around algebra, proof and calculus. AI suits social sciences, business and design; AA suits maths, engineering and physics. In your free trial we'll match the course to your university plans — you can also see our IB Maths AA tutor page.

Do you tutor both HL and SL Maths AI?

Yes. We tutor Applications & Interpretation at both Higher and Standard Level, including the calculator-active papers and HL's investigative Paper 3. Your tutor follows your exact level so every lesson lines up with your class and your exam.

Is Maths AI easier than AA?

AI is less abstract — there's less proof and pure algebra — but it isn't a soft option. It carries heavy statistics, modelling and interpretation, and HL AI is demanding. Many quantitative degrees accept AI, though some competitive maths and engineering courses prefer AA. We'll help you pick based on your university goals.

Can you help with the Maths AI Exploration (IA)?

Yes. We coach the Internal Assessment end to end — choosing a strong, data-rich topic, applying genuine mathematics, and meeting every assessment criterion. We guide and review your work; we never write it for you, in line with IB academic-integrity rules.

My child is struggling and exams are close. Can you still help?

Yes. We start with a diagnosis to find exactly which topics and exam skills are costing marks, then focus every lesson there. Even in a short window, targeted one-to-one work on the highest-impact topics — often statistics and modelling technique — can move a grade.

My child studies at an international school abroad. Can you still help?

Yes. All lessons are online, so we support IB Maths AI students across Europe, the UAE, Asia and international schools worldwide, including expat families relocating mid-Diploma.
